The Hunt Institute is committed to making its collections accessible for research. To that end, we are digitizing as staff time, item condition and copyright law permit. We are pleased to offer descriptions and in some cases digitized versions of the following collections from the Archives.
The Archives of the Hunt Institute houses over 200 collections of correspondence, field notes, manuscripts and other writings. Collections in this list are arranged alphabetically by botanist's or organization's name. An individual botanist may have more than one collection number if those items constitute discrete collections with separate provenances. The Register of Botanical Biography and Iconography database also contains portraits of and biographical citations for many of the individuals listed below. Please check back at this site in the future, as we will continue to add to our listing.
The Archives is not a browsing collection. To make an appointment to research any of these collections, please contact the archivist.
The Archives considers itself a repository of alternate resort and counsels botanists to install their papers at their home institutions. Donate your papers to your university or institutional archive to increase historical documentation. If you are looking for an alternate repository, please feel free to contact us.
Entry for 21 September 1938, Deciduous field notebook no. 8, HI Archives E. Lucy Braun collection no. 181. The Hunt Institute Archives holds over 80 of E. Lucy Braun's (1889–1971) field notebooks in which she recorded data that led to the publication of her Deciduous Forests of Eastern North America (Philadelphia, The Blakiston Company, 1950).
