Flowers of the Amazon: Watercolors by Margaret Mee

20 April – 13 June 1987

Organized by the Missouri Botanical Garden, this was Margaret Mee's first one-person exhibition in the United States. It included a selection of 58 watercolors by the English-born Mee, who was well known for her published illustrations of bromeliads and at this point had been painting the flora of the Amazon for over 30 years. In 2005 the Institute hosted another traveling exhibition featuring the work of Margaret Mee (1909–1988). For more information about the Institute's Mee holdings, see our Margaret Mee page.
