This guide accompanied an exhibition of Michel Adanson's books, manuscripts, letters, photographs and botanical specimens and artifacts. It included an introduction by George H. M. Lawrence (1910–1978; director, 1960–1970) and a list of the items displayed. Complete descriptions of the items could be found in W. D. Margadant's (1916–1997; assistant librarian, 1962–1970) catalogue of the Adanson Library in volume 1 of Adanson.
